The right equipment is essential for getting the job done. You wouldn’t cut a steak with a butter knife would you?
We’re not strangers to spending money on the hobbies we enjoy. I have a friend who spends his time on various DIY projects around his house. I can only imagine what his Home Depot bill looks like. Another friend enjoys photography. Her camera is so advanced it could probably make me breakfast.
Yet too often I see folks skimp on fitness equipment. I’m talking the bare essentials. Ten year-old shoes that look like they’ve been to war and back. Tees with holes in them. Hats that haven’t seen the washing machine since it was invented.
I understand fitness is not a hobby for everyone. For many it’s something they have to do, something close to drudgery. And that’s just fine. As long as you’re taking care of yourself you’re doing it right.
But c’mon people, there is a limit.
Swap out those ratty joggers for more comfortable ones that fit better. Invest in some comfortable tees instead of reusing the same crusty shirts you’ve picked up at various 5Ks over the years.
Pick up wrist wraps if your wrists hurt. Knee sleeves if your knees are struggling. Lifting belts to protect yourself if you’re among the minority of folks who can lift serious weight.
Replace those old running shoes with new ones. You’ll quickly realize how much you missed the extra support. Pick up socks actually designed for training. As Lieutenant Dan said in Forrest Gump, “You’ve got to take care of your feet.”
Buying fitness equipment is like buying a new coat. You can’t wait to show it off. You’re praying for cold weather. When you’ve got new clothes or new shoes or a new something to show off, you’ll want to exercise. You’ll stand a little taller, work a little harder, be a little better.
The construction worker doesn’t show up with a rock hammer meant for unearthing fossils. He shows up with a sledgehammer ready to take down walls.
When you show up to exercise, do so with the right equipment.
Have you seen Theo Von's interview with Dana White a couple of days ago? Dana let Peloton have it for meddling into what interviews Theo has on his channel. Quite comical.
Right on Scott. Peloton all the way for me. If you are in a cult gotta look the part 💪
